The day started with my dad wishing me a happy birthday!
What a rare show of emotion from him. My dad is a really gruff man. He doesn't like talking to us girls (me and my sister) but he talks to my baby brother and mum a lot. So he'll always convey his messages via one of them.
But today he broke tradition and decided to whatsapp the group chat, wishing me a "Happy birthday and best wishes to Coco" and yes I could've gotten the same format from a stranger but hey HE TRIED!
My grandma came over early today after learnig Gabriel is coming tonight because she die die wants to make salted egg prawns for him. Came over in a sass and stormed up a monster feast in our kitchen. FOOD IS SALVATION!
She is excited for the most solid grandson-in-law she's seen in years. Either that or she wants my boyfriend's validation more than mine fml I can't ever get cereal prawns anymore because she only wants to cook his favourite.
We took photos and I waved at the camera and she followed suit awww so cute.
Me and my sister's afternoon was spent time-lapsing our dessert store production hahaha.
Waited for the boyfriend who came over in a bit, looking mighty sexy and delicious. He bought a little cake and proceeded to cuddle with me on my bed, saying "humph!" repeatedly over nothing so cute heheh I was innocent!!!
My third and happiest birthday cake!
I saw his demin outerwear and decided to match him! And now these are my new favorite photos of us heh heh. I especially like the photo of him looking at me and smiling. It has a "L is for the way you look at me" tune to it!
The family was tired from work/ school and so they grudgingly took a photo but happily ate the cake. So that's the priorities of my family! Headed off in a bit to catch the dreaded Mission Impossible, which turned out pretty good.
We reached his place and I was entering his room when he suddenly, and very sweetly, told me to go to his kitchen. A thousand feminists just rolled over in their graves hearing that. Anyway I skipped happily to the kitchen!
There was a simple little brown envelope on the dining table.
He proudly waited for me to open it up and I did!
"Hey,
Happy birthday honey! Your existence defines living. You sparkle like a diamond lighting up my life! From the greatest boyfriend.
Love you forever!
P.S. This is the first card I've ever written!
P.P.S. To many more 1st!"
Nothing in the card made me quite as honored nor happy as that single line.
Even though I was a little disappointed that he only got me a card, a part of me recognized that he sincerely saw this card as a big deal. The way he happily took me into his arms while repeating that made my world glow.
But of course, sneaky him being sneaky, had something else planned! I took the card and walked into the room, ready to collapse back on the bed when I saw a Citigems gift box on the bed. And I think I almost cried.
This is my first ever diamond necklace.
He was so adorable the entire time I was opening the box. I was clueless about diamonds. In fact just before our movie, he was smoking and I was trying to tell him about a poem from Clementine von Radics that I loved:
The story behind lobsters
is that they weren’t thought of as cuisine
until the 19th century. Before that
they were considered peasant food,
and most often served in prisons.
The story behind diamonds
is that they were just rocks until 1938
when there was a marketing campaign
that forever linked them with love.
The story about you is that you thought
I was so much more than I was.
The story behind art
is that it’s never a masterpiece
until it’s already been sold.
Once it already belongs to someone else.
The story behind us
is that once you finally had me, you had
no idea what I was worth.
He heard it and apparently went, "okay good lucky I buy the diamond already" inside his head. Outwardly he nodded disinterestedly and I was pouting because I thought he didn't care for my ramblings anymore heh heh.
But back to the issue at hand. I didn't know how to appreciate a diamond so he bought the magnifying scope to my eye and taught me how to view it. He explained that it was a dancing diamond and showed me how it shone.
And I loved it.
Of course I love the necklace and the great effort he put into getting it for me. But I loved him more for walking me through diamond appreciation. He always unintentionally reminds me how patient he is with me.
From cooking together in Gold Coast, to teaching how how to ride a bike in Bangkok, to educating me about diamonds here. What a wonderfully patient man he is. And what a terribly lucky girl I am to be the one he chose.
I love you.
Thank you for being my wish come true.
