We had a nice breakfast in our hotel courtesy of my parents, who have been wired to go out and buy food together every Sunday morning since our birth hehe, and so got to laze in for a bit.
We were planning where to go because it was Gabriel's last day so I wanted him to clear his last minute shopping without my family slowing us down. He had dedicated his past two days to taking care of them so he deserved his last day!
In the end, my uncle suggested we give Chatuchak one more try and that afterwards, me and Gabriel could separate from the group to our own plans.
So here we are!
Made my family take photos too!
Yay! Heh heh.
My family doesn't know it but Gabriel took a burst of 360 photos. So I chose the photos that made each one of them look bad. There's one with my mouth open. There's one with my dad reaching for ice cream. One of my uncle looking deadpan into the camera while eating.
But the final result was cutest hehe. My dad looking oversized for his tight shirt and tiny cap, my mum gorgeously serving up ice cream, me looking short, my brother looking like a golf pro and my sister looking unusually tall.
We shopped a little while and then split up to:
Father + Brother | Me + Gabriel | Mum sister grandma aunt uncle
The father and son duo claimed they'll wait at the Chatuchak entrance for us but in fact, tried to go home. Me and Gabriel claimed we're going off but continued shopping ahead at Chatuchak. We ended up meeting my mum and co again.
Me and my mum then tried to chase blindly for my dad's cab (we just ran towards a particular direction not knowing where he was) because she wanted him to bring our bags home. My brother replied in the chat that they left so we gave up.
I walked back to see Gabriel walk away from his most excitable purchase yet because, "the guy refused to sell it wtf he keep saying must buy many many." and then we hopped into a cab and we left.
As if it wasn't chaotic enough, my Find My Friends app then pinged and I realized my brother was tracking us. I called him and he said they had for a cab home so they were coming back to look for us. I said I was on a cab out already and he "oh"-ed and hung up.
And I kept calling back to tell him to get the cab driver to meet us at Platinum Mall so that me and Gabriel can pass them money. But there was silence for a bit and then my brother replied, "one driver agreed to take us for 140baht."
And then I finally could relax heh heh.
Baby was way ahead of me in relaxing:
Battle scars :(
And mental scars.
We headed to Platinum Mall again. Baby was still sore over losing the pants he wanted at Chatuchak and I had half a mind to sneak back without him. But the traffic was terrible and there was no way I could make it back in time for his flight.
He bought his stuff from all around Platinum Mall and was still determined to find his pants, so we carried on to Pratunam. It was starting to look forlorn but he suddenly took a turn into the City Complex, as if a shopper's instinct was leading him.
And holy fuck did our skies clear because the minute we entered, we saw it. A wholesale store packing out parcels of the branded jeans that Gabriel was precisely looking for. We tried to calm down and walk a full round around the mall to check but there was nothing like it. We went back!
He wanted demin shorts initially but he was okay with settling for jeans, but when I was looking through the rack I accidentally brought out a SuperDry demin shorts for him to check out so guess who became all the happier!
So if you're looking for SuperDry, Cheap Monday and Fred Perry jeans, go for the hidden City Complex in Pratunam! My boyfriend is a happier man because of that place :)
With him cheered him and finally off his shopping list, we finally went back to the hotel! We dropped off our stuff and lazed so long that we had no time left for a final massage and instead looked for dinner in Pratunam.
I love Pratunam. It feels like home.
Or maybe it feels like home because you're with me.
I struggled very long after my bath with tying the shawl, which got me all pouty and feeling scammed by the Chatuchak uncle who demonstrated its dress-shifting ability to me before I bought it.
Gabriel was lazing on the bed but came over after a while and tried to help. He patiently tried a few knots before finally figuring out how it worked, tucking the shawl's ends firmly at the back and spreading out the scrunch at the front. My boyfriend is sheer magic.
He had to leave in a bit and I sadly sent him downstairs the hotel :(
After a while, my mum texted to meet at Rod Fai Night Market, which is a place I've planned since 2014 but never got to go because the directions are constantly horrific. I feared getting lost so I never followed through.
But my dad and brother were tired of lying in the hotel so I had to try.
And thankfully for me, I found a cab driver who specifically recognized these words, "Rod Fai" and "Ratchada". The cab ride was about 15 minutes in smooth traffic and he dropped us in front of this mall called Esplanade, gesturing us to walk in.
And God was the place pretty:
But we couldn't shop in peace because my mum and co were still lost.
I think they were at Rod Fai Night Market 1, while I was at 2. We tried to communicate but my uncle lost his cool for a bit and it ended up in a 1.5 hour waiting session for my dad, my brother and me at the Esplanade McDonald's.
Thankfully, I bought my baby brother a cube when we first recee'ed the night market so he was entertained. My dad was entertained when I called my other aunt, who happened to be in Pratunam too, trading jokes and deciding on a meetup location tomorrow.
I was the only one un-entertained and missing my boyfriend, who took off shortly after I reached here :(
In the end, my mum and co managed to find their way here and I had one of the best shopping sprees here.
Rod Fai Night Market (the one behind Esplanade Mall, I don't know any others) is a haven of cheap clothings, dirt cheap accessories and dirtier, cheaper bags. Everything here was below 250 baht. Any price above that was considered a crime.
My sister and I went ballistic and pretty much bought something from every store. I had to buy this gorgeous geometrically colored duffel bag to store all our purchases. And even then, it threatened to burst at the seams.
Then my parents, who got bored waiting for us, informed the chat that we can take our time because they found a seat at Frankfurt Bar and are "getting a beer."
?!?!?! MY PARENTS?!
And then they proved it:
Me and my sister grasped so hard we choked and almost didn't look good for the upcoming photo:
But we did!
Also I'm not balding it's the stupid lighting.
We finished up shopping after realizing we had close to no funds left and hopped over to meet them, the beer drinkers (what!?) and we had to commemorate the insane occasion with a photo so here I am lookin' short and stout!
We took a few more photos and then left for home.
I will be back for you, Rod Fai!
