I'm usually very sleepless overseas and I was excited for the arrival of my boyfriend later that night so I got up early and attempted to do some yoga. My aunt saw me and excitedly came over to join me for a bit before giving up hahah.
My grandma came in after a bit too and helped with my photos heh heh.
My all-time favourite stretch to date.
My sister is queen of shower time. I can take four showers in the time she takes to take one. It could either mean I'm grossly unhygienic or she's freakishly immaculate about hers. Whatever floats your boat! I'd like to think I'm clean and puffy.
Our first stop of the day was Platinum Mall!
Note to self: see this is why you cannot carry off shaved sides.
Anyway, we were there way too early and with nothing to eat, we wound up at McDonalds (I am ashamed) but at least we got to try some of their Thailand-exclusive items! Such as porridge wow what is this congee.
Oh Jesus Christ I'm jizzing to my hair.
Anyway, this is the first time in 20 years that me and my sister have matched hair colors. She usually goes for warmer tones like brown and almond but this time, she decided red was the way to go. GOOD ON YOU, SISTER.
I was born a redhead. All women are born equal, then some become redheads. It simply is the way of life. My way of life.
Platinum finally opened at 10am and we split up for easier shopping. My sister and I got caught up in contact lenses and before we knew it, the rest of the family had wandered away from us LOL. The plan was 12pm at the food center.
So we took our time.
Everyone else was in a state of bliss.
It is most of my family's first time shopping in Bangkok and their sheer joy from buying steals at actual thieveing prices was apparent. My sister, mum and aunt went ballistic. I kept to my lean SGD$30 day one budget. My sister's budget imploded.
But naturally, the men in the family (namely the baby brother and father) got too lazy to walk anymore and tried to get back to the hotel.
Now, I must be the fucking jackpot-carrier of events wherever I go because lo and behold, there was YET ANOTHER EVENT IN BANGKOK! From street demonstrations to military occupations to now this, a country-wide bike marathon for the King.
It sounds harmless enough but it meant early closure of all the roads for the bikes. Which meant my dad and brother could only go back to the hotel in a tuktuk.
My dad couldn't bargain with the driver so I did and it was not a good deal but he gruffly agreed and look at their excited faces!
See told you my mum went crazy on the bags.
The sliver lining in the road closure is that now, pedestrians are free to roam the streets without potentially dying from being in the path of a wayward taxi. I got some of the best photos of this trip from this closed road heh heh.
Oh God I could make love to my hair.
Also as you can tell, I was telling to take the perfect back view because I was having such a gorgeous ass day. My stomach was not cooperating. But my hair was in the mood. So overall I AM PLEASED.
Hehe our best sisterly photos in a while.
Holy fuck my hair is to die for.
We headed back to the mall after a while. There were a line of street stores lining the area so we had a quick pit stop at the cheese balls store, largely because the decor was Instagram worthy. I am a photo fanatic through and through.
I didn't eat it in the end LOL my sister finished the thing.
After a while, we decided to head to Siam Square One. My sister wanted to go to the Hello Kitty Cafe, not me. Me a little. So anyway, due to the closed roads, we were split up from my dad and brother who were still in the hotel room.
A shit ton of miscommunication later, my family wound up sitting in Siam Paragon (the only open road left for tuktuks) to wait for my father and brother, fearing that they might get lost. And I remembered specifically thinking, "It'll be funny if they were already at Siam Square."
And true enough, 26 missed calls later, my brother replied the group annoyed, "Okay so we meet you guys at Siam Square or Siam Paragon?"
THE CHEEK OF IT ALL!
Here we were worried they couldn't find the place and there they were, ALREADY THERE. The navigational skills of my dad and brother is incredible.
We finally met up amid the roars of the ongoing marathon right below us:
See not kidding EVERY ROAD was closed.
Thankfully, our next pit stop was the Hello Kitty cafe, located inside Siam Square one and not outside as we first presumed. So we got to be away from the crazy and be in touch with the cute!!! LOOK AT THE DECOR I'M DYING.
Some of my best family photos were taken here :)
After scouring the place for photos with my sister, we found this long palatial table. I told her it was a great photo op and an experience in itself anyway, to have my dad sit at the king chair while we profile him side by side.
And she really guts-ed up and made the whole family shift over shamelessly MY SISTER IS WORTHY.
And the photo was perfect!
Then we decided it was time for vainer shots.
And against all my ill-givings, food shots:
I still got it!
Flatlays eluded me for such a long time. I couldn't understand how people could lay simple things around and end up creating the most tumblr-perfect photo. A foodie might be turning over in his sleep that I didn't turn the rainbow slice over for a better shot. I know I am.
Grandma kept wandering to the kitties without asking us of anything so I figured she wanted photos and she did hehe, with the grandma kitty. So I went over!
She tried to make me delete the shots above because her legs could be seen and she didn't like the way her knees faced outwards.
I told her it's deleted and took more heh heh.
So cute. My grandma with grandma kitty.
And then she helped me too!
I was very entertained by my family taking photos/ with their antics all around so actually, I spent much of this trip just photographing them hehe.
My dad sian of all the hullabaloo (cant believe I got to use this word once in my lifetime).
Mum reviewing the photos my dad took of her.
Uncle so bored he's attempting to whistle.
Grandma telling mum to take photos with grandma kitty too.
And us in our sweet new ride, courtesy of the sister who got her manual car license in under three months.
Grandma with a grand cat :)
After a while, we headed to MBK which turned out to be pretty empty.
My mum still wanted more of Platinum Mall but by then, the roads have fully closed. One tuktuk escaped the traffic police and came to us. My mum, dad, brother and I made it home on wheels while the other four had to walk because they had no further luck with tuktuks.
I felt so guilty I wanted to give up my seat to my grandma but her fear of tuktuks was deathly and I knew the tuktuk didn't know how to get to KC Place (our hotel) so I was needed to be the tour guide. Ah man.
After a while me and my dad headed out to fetch Gabriel and we went for massages!
200baht per hour massages!
Me and Gabiel headed upstairs for the full body one so we didn't find out how theirs went.
My sister said my dad was mega ticklish and laughed a lot. At first they were all quiet, save her giggling (hers started first) and she figured whose funny bone she took after when my dad broke into raucous laughter as they started on his toes. Giggle genes!
Later in the night, my sister generously gave up the room for me and Gabriel. Which was painfully lucky because we wound up having one of the worst fights of our relationship, a fight that lasted from 1am to 3am with both of us bruised and in tears.
I slept badly the rest of the night.
