The rudest awakening

Waking up was surreal.

It took a lot of courage, but I summoned every logic and reasoning power I had and composed it all in a bulletproof message. I sent it and prayed for the best.

The rest of the day passed in a happy haze. I woke up early and attempted to make a happy breakfast for baby, but halfway I faltered and slumped beside his bed, head in my arms. He saw it and immediately assured me again, despite his morning sleepiness.

To distract me from the previous day's events, I made breakfast and we watched the 1977 Star Wars after. I was excited at every character's entry. My enthusiasm was matched by his. We genuinely enjoyed the movie. I tried to ignore my phone.

It was tough to continue my diet. I almost wanted to binge in despair. But every time I stepped into his kitchen, I'd rest my hands on my hips out of habit as I surveyed over what to eat. And my hips would remind me to stay skinny.

And so I did.

God damn it do I love this pair of shorts.
