Today was his pre-birthday surprise for me and I had no idea what it was going to be. When he said Marina Square, I wondered for a full minute if he was going to surprise me by joining me in yoga at Platinum. THAT WOULD BE MAGICAL!
But then I saw him, setting every other girls' panties ablaze in his leather jacket and sleek kicks and figured it's someplace for fancy food. But that got shot to zero-Michelin-star hell when he swayed me into Sushi Express.
I gave up guessing and started eating my sad sushi haha.
He was distracted throughout dinner. He kept checking his phone and tuning out my yoga-related rants (that happens a lot now). Then, suddenly he declared dinner over and rushed me out of my seat and hurriedly went to pay.
He then started to usher me towards the Esplanade and I was puzzled because his notorious first lie to me when we were dating was, 'I love plays!' so that was out of the question.
But I started to realize everyone around us were quickening their pace into the Esplanade too and they were dressed in all sorts of niceties and then I gasped super dramatically and cried, 'Les Mis?!?!?!' and he smiled the biggest smile.
I HAVE THE BEST BOYFRIEND EVER!!!
Ever since I forced him to watch the movie version of Les Miserables, I have endlessly told him how much I wanted to catch its musical counterpart. Some more, they were coming to Singpore. What other sign did I need!
But he kept saying it was too near his deployment date and he wasn't sure if he'd have duty so I killed the notion, since it was only open for the 2 last days he's in Singapore so I thought I'd go with someone else or something.
BUT HERE WE ARE!
He made me take these shots heheh he's so adorable.
SO HAPPY!
He bought them on Carousell so we met the person together because he didn't want me to wait anywhere alone (I was wearing a less-than-classy dress) so I had to see the transaction. He covered it as much as he could but he peeled at least 6 50's from his wallet oh my baby!!!
Can't believe he did this, and not even for something he likes, just because he knew I'd love it.
God I am so lucky!
AHHHHHHHH DYING.
As if getting day two premiere tickets to Les Mis wasn't enough, he made sure to get a box seat. We had a little booth with a crystal clear view of the stage. He looked around our seats, visibly impressed, and then started asking me to take photos.
AHHHHHHHH SO HAPPY!
I love the love in this series of photos.
And then.
Sigh.
Counter attack!
Les Mis then started beautifully with Look Down.
I'm no theater expert, so I don't expect to be able to properly express how good the musical was. But hearing Look Down gave me goosebumps. Their voices were so strong and powerful, I'm sure it could fall trees.
I Dreamed a Dream, on the other hand, was pretty lackluster to me. Gabriel said she was extraordinary but I think I hear too much of Candice to be able to like any other musical voice.
Master of the House was great! Gabriel was struggling to stay awake despite me leaning on the railing and exciting tugging on his jeans every 3 seconds but for this song, he was wide awake and happily laughing at all the right parts. So well done!
The first half ended fucking spectacularly with One Day More. I didn't think much of that song, my titanium was Do You Hear The People Sing but holy fuck the former's performance blew everyone away. The crowd went wild and it was standing ovations all round. Chills.
It ended abruptly on that high note Gabriel kept insisting that this is so the bored ones can leave while still having a fantastic impression of Les Mis fresh in their minds. He would've left if I hadn't made my pouty face and insisted on hearing the final Do You Hear The People Sing.
First half photos!
(almost said half-time lol)
Can't believe I'm here!
We came back quickly for the second half and this time Gabriel stopped fighting it lol. He straight up fell asleep in his chair while I continued watching, honestly getting slightly bored with the slow love story. Then FINALLY, Valjean died (I mean, yeah) and the last number came.
It was enchanting and brilliant, the powerful choir of voices and the maddening symphony band, but it couldn't hold its own against One Day More. Still, it was the final number so everyone started non-stop clapping for a good 15-minutes as the cast came out in varying sequences.
Gabriel was very amused that everyone was clapping for that long haha. So cute. My man finds humor in the most silly things.
We hummed the songs all the way home!
Thank you my baby :)
