Review: Singapore Calisthenics Academy

I'm done with my upcoming issue so I've been taking some time at work planning my next trip. I had to shift my plans from New York for A Day to Remember and Bring Me the Horizon because it is likely that they won't retire from touring as soon as Brand New would.

Chasing Brand New isn't easy.

My best bet is Miami, FL but right now, I have funds only for my $1.1k plane tickets and $69 gig ticket. None for accommodations and expenses. If I do set aside at least $2k for this solo trip, it would mean my grand train trip (budgeted at $4k in expenses) at the end of this year would have to wait.

I suppose the train trip isn't a pressing worry now because my current position will last me through till then but the idea of trudging through Miami alone scares me slightly. Or what if Brand New decides to pull out on their Miami day? That would mean I have wasted my entire trip.

But doing this solo trip opens up a nice shiny door into the venture I'm looking at because I'll get a fucking fresh perspective, even if its at the expense of me possibly spending two weeks alone in a foreign land without a mate.

But do I (really) dare?

After work was my first session at Singapore Calisthentics Academy:

I have no photos of the place.

I found the place easily because Motionwerkz is around here too. And the minute I went in, I was greeted by the fittest bunch of people I've ever seen working out. It was a rush of sweat and grassy odor. I had mixed feelings.

I told the instructors I had no idea about calisthenics, having mainly stuck to horizontal training for HIIT and paced form-control yoga. So they gave me allowance for the most part and we started on the set of the day.

It was 5 pull-ups x 10 reps. Most of the girls finished theirs with a strap. I tried it too and on my first attempt, I managed to do it!!! But it was mainly due to the thick tension strap. Without it, I'll probably be just hanging.

After that was handstands against a wall. Handstands here weren't as life-changing as some of the reviews raved. I preferred my dynamic Strala handstand transitions. But I accepted all the teachings gamely, since they teach a perfect-finish form. Whether I can do it is a whole other question!

After that was this thing called dips? I'm not sure. I hold a bar on each side and left my body up while keeping my knees bent. I could do it until the instructor told me to bend my elbows and then I collapsed lol.

The warm-down was pretty draining too, a lot of arms endurance. I am writing this a day late and I feel a low 30% soreness, which means SOMEBODY DIDN'T GIVE HER ALL, DID SHE. I am ashamed of myself.

The session concluded and I went to find my darling baby, decked out in his handsome sailor suit. It deserved a photo way more than my less-than-stellar performance at Singapore Calisthenics Academy so here's his face!

We had a little dinner date at Xin Wang where we took Merriam Webster fact and vocabulary tests (my new-found hobby at work) and I bested him at most of it because I am unnaturally smart. It also could be because I read a lot of nonsense.

Headed down early because he had work to do and I waited for him sadly and he saw my sad puppy eyes and came over and the rest of the night sped right along the way I liked it :)

He was falling asleep and I was cuddling him when I told him softly that I'm slightly worried that I'm not as actively keen in bed as I used to be, and he looked worried for the slightest second before lovingly going, "That's okay, as long as you still love me," and fell gently asleep.

We are happy again :)
