Review: Naughty Nuri's

We had breakfast at my childhood place!

I love this coffee-shop at 153 Bukit Batok Street 11. It was the stuff of my childhood. Me and my sister and brother would wait in the car while my parents went to buy food. Sometimes we follow them and I'll go to the bookstore and stock up on Enid Blyton. It was a magical time.

I never brought any of my ex-es here because I didn't want someone temporary to ruin a place of permanent happiness for me. But it was Gabriel, and I was dying to share this happiest time of my childhood with him.

And he was so sweet too. We were very lost and I was late for class and I wanted to skip it but he insisted. And we made it!!!

Don't know why I didn't take any photos but we had a lovely breakfast of zai mifen, chee chong fun and rice cake, all the wonderful things I used to eat with my parents here as a child. God I love that memory. I love this place.

After that he sent me to yoga class at Studio Sands while he went to the mechanic.

And then it was Johor Bahru, again!

We didn't know where to eat at but Naughty Nuri was curiously full for a weekday afternoon so we headed in!

He ordered the best ribs in town, because he has a weakness for 'best of!' anything haha.

Mine was a aglio olio with seared salmon. It was fantastic to the last bite. He kept stealing it off my plate. It's hard for me to appreciate aglio olio because I live for cream base but this place nailed it. Not to mention the seared salmon glided off my knife at every easy cut. YUM.

His ribs were great too. I didn't used to eat ribs but Gabriel is a ferocious carnivore so now I have the sinful (literally since I was a Buddhist by birth) taste for beef and ribs. This was worth the sin.

After that was our newfound massage place and then back to my bed :)

Review: The Replacement Lodge & Kitchen

Baby was in a stunning mood today.

He just got his license yesterday and immediately wanted to ride into Johor Bahru. We thought it couldn't be soon since he thought he wasn't on the insurance but the planets lined up and THERE HE WAS! And so we planned.

I wanted to try The Replacement Lodge and Kitchen because it was the top result in quite a few lists. Why do I listen to these lists? The other one I wanted to try was Faculty of Caffeine and they were in the same area so why not!

Getting in took about 30 minutes (lucky us!) and we entered a wrong lane and got dragged a little. But otherwise, the journey was fucking beautiful. Baby rode like a panther and we were there in no time! Why is my man so gifted with directions?

I missed the cafe but he saw it! The title is so tiny, just a little fonted signage on the wall. Baby attributes it to his keen riding eye. I attribute it to terrible marketing and branding.

We cut two couples (lucky, lucky us!) and headed in.

The ice chocolate was meh.

The minute I saw the menu, I went I knew it I knew it I KNEW IT all reviews are scams. This place's most expensive breakfast course is a platter. If a cafe's prized bestseller is a platter, you know they don't have much on their literal plate. But baby made me order it anyway.

I wanted to get the soft shell crab but it was with a bao and no rice/ pasta and it made no sense to my Asian-diet-trained body so I passed.

Baby was eagerly awaiting food!

He was hungry as shit after all the riding and so he tried to finish my order before his came. As you can see, the platter was a sad show. The mushrooms were great, the eggs were soggy, the toast was surprisingly well done and the hams were sad.

Baby and I started to search for dogs to adopt when we live together. I wanted a Pomeranian and he wanted a Husky and so we met halfway and agreed on a Pomeranian Husky mix!

Happy baby with his poached eggs with beef!

It was pretty ordinary, I like the egg-soaked bread but it was plain. The churros were plainer. He wanted to try the salted egg dip but like all gimmicks, it tasted funny and disappointing. I am never listening to listicles again,

So mighty adorable.

The rain started to come down so he had another cuppa.

Classy baby.

We were getting chilly in the place so we left. The rain was too bad for us to travel out to the massage place so we had another stopover in this nitrogen-laden ice cream place.

SO COOL!!!!

Baby tried to stop me from touching the dry ice, saying it burns.

He kept trying to be all cryptic about how he knew it burns and I happily told him I burned my fingers on dry ice once on Swenson's dry ice. Then he smiled and that's how he knew too. So adorable, trying to make it seem like he burned himself on a work hazard,

My red hair whoop.

After that, we took a blog's recommendation and headed to Plaza Sentosa for a massage at Sabye Sabye. I wanted Bangkok Spa, it's the only place I trust but the review was so glowing that we had to try.

Baby mocking how I take my photos.

My actual photos.

Adorable thing,

The massage turned out pretty shit, I spent the entire time checking my phone praying time was up. I am going back to Bangkok Spa. Baby didn't enjoy it too because they kept pressing on all the spots where he was hurting. Poor baby!

If I hadn't said it, it's my first time entering Malaysia via bike. And he took wonderful care of me. I couldn't have asked for a better company. Though I kept crying over how he's gonna be gone for three months. Sigh.

Such is life.
