The most romantic day of the year and both of us overslept heh heh.
I had to head over to school for my attendance and he had to borrow a camera so after all the schtick, we were only done by early evening. So it was a mad rush to tampines mall!

More flowers from the silliest man ever.

Took us a mad long time to find this place!
Was incredibly spooked on our way in because we walked and the cab dropped us off at a wrong location. There were dogs howling and chilly winds and he swore he saw his brother's car drove by us but when he called his brother's cell, he was actually at ang mo kio woah what.

So imagine our relief when we finally saw the place.
It was a tucked away place by itself. Imagine expecting a forested area but seeing a place alive beyond measure with lights on Eiffel towers, pool tables, live music and an actual war museum.

I asked about the inspiration for opening a restaurant themed solely around the 1942 war and Gerard (the man behind this place) explained that this was to commemorate the veterans and the ones lost in war.
He gestured to a stretch of plain fields right across his restaurant and explained that was the old Sook Ching massacre site. I asked why remember sadness and he said something that reminded me of an Audrey Niffnegger book that I love.
"The dead needs us to remember them."

... And suddenly, everything here swelled with historical pride and significance.

While looking so very beautiful.

This was before we figured how to toggle the zoom knob heh heh.

Our meals of the night!

Their regular menu which stars their king: baked salmon ring.
We kicked back and relaxed to the soothing tunes of the live music ahead of us as we talked about really unclassy things such as "why you wake up late and never surprise me with more flowers". I am the queen of demanding girlfriends.

This is their pan fried scallops - and they were absolutely delish.
Imagine the softness of the scallop atop a strange, biscuit-like mini plate and having them come together in your mouth in a savory explosion. Oh my god getting hungry typing this.

The boyfriend was complaining I take too many photos and that he's gonna die of hunger so I decided to take my own sweet time circling the dish taking better photos while he just watched glumly hehe.

This is their pan-fried cod fish - looks unimpressive but it was mmm.
The boyfriend liked this best. He cooks (thank god) and he says its not easy to serve up the perfect cod fish. Takes a lot of watchful minding to make sure the fish is made just right.

He went on about more fish banter while I picked away the cabbage and lovingly fed him all the ingredients I didn't want. But alas I failed to monopolize the fish as he threatened to take back my flowers so I had only half the fish.
But I managed to finish all the delish mashed potatos (my favourite part of the dish) so I got that going for me, which is nice heh heh.

And the crown jewel of 1942: their baked salmon ring.
The boyfriend helped me eat away all the ingredients that scared me (I only eat meat, all else scares me) and this was the most filling dish of all. It was mad satisfying. Me love!

And can we talk about how chio it looks up top?

And this is their 1942 tiramisu special!
I usually don't tale tiramisu but this one was pretty good. It was decadent and soft and it felt like I was eating very tasty clouds. The boyfriend is a manly man so he had no comment on my girly dessert. MORE 4 ME.

And my absolute favorite:
the heart-shaped strawberry cheesecake!
He looks so adorable holding onto it aww. Little did he know that if he angled it badly and the cheesecake fell, I would've broken down and forced him to duplicate another one for me with sheer willpower.

Tadah!
He didn't like this dish because the other dishes stuffed him full so I had the delight of eating both of them! I loved the sweetness of strawberry in the cheesecake. Am I salivating now yes I am. Do I care no I don't, I want this cheesecake again oh my god.

That concluded our very exciting night of very interesting dishes! We did a little present exchange and he finally solved all my hints and got me a necklace heh heh. Look at it shining on my neck. Rihanna gurl you be jealous of me shining bright like a diamond.
Also that's their house pour white wine, which stayed fine and chilled lightly even though we took very long with dinner and drank it only towards the end. What a pleasant surprise.

Checking out hot army guys while the boyfriend snaps and doesn't care.

Meeting the man behind this place, Gerard!
In our conversation, I learnt about many things - from the history of this place to the location of this place. One of the customers sitting in the war museum section as joking about buying the stuff home so I asked him if it was possible to buy them.
And from there he revealed that all these were from his own private collection that he now wanted to share with the world. The boyfriend asked if he would bring a tank in for ultimate authenticity and he said he is trying to works something out so keep a look out!

Upcoming events include a Veteran's Day which I'm mad excited about - imagine all the war time stories I'll get to hear - and happy hour for selected timings so check out their Facebook page for more details!
