Review: WeBarre

I've heard good things about WeBarre.

It started with Haslinda. She wanted to go for their aerial classes but it was going for $30 a pop and I had KFit so I told her I'll pass. Adding onto it was a recommendation from the girl yesterday. So I booked for their signature barre.

The studio is pretty central. It is in Tanjong Pajar, close to Duxton. All of my favourite food places and book stores were a stone's throw away. I thought 'what a relaxing setting. the class confirm relaxing.'

Put a tail on me and hang me on a tree because lol WHAT A DONKEY I WAS.

Barre was T O U G H. I always start out posts with 'chey easy easy but WOW SO TOUGH' but I actually mean it with this class. Who knew ballet murdered legs like this? By the 30-minute mark, most of the girls were slowing down, but none as slow as me because I came to a complete halt LOL.

I like this class. I like it because it's fucking classy. Lots of stances and toe pointing. All movements are tinged with ballet's elegance but basketball's cardio. No shit wait I just realized that's why this class is called ballet cardio FUCK I tio pian by myself.

It was intensive. Barre burns energy like a beast. Nobody can ever tell me now that ballet is easy. Now, I want to worship at Misty Copeland's feet more than ever.

I survived and so celebrated with poser photos.

Lol @ me for using the bar wrongly (figured this out the next day at rhythmic gymnastics) but I'm glad I made myself try. Now I am saving the last two lessons as dearly as I am saving Strala's.

After class, I headed home to rest for the photoshoot. Today was Little Guilin with @m1ckyangelo, who brought his mentor along.

Those bearing the watermark belongs to the mentor and those without are Micky's. I love the mentor's expertise but Micky makes me feel more comfortable so I was more natural in front of his lenses.

Also, I think this is the end of my fitness photography. Gonna go back to casual. No point being in leggings and sports bra and looking 50% when I can wear a bodycon and be at 90%.

Check out my vanity.

A graceful descent

All mornings start great with you.

My lazy baby refused to wake up till he smelled food, which led to me slaving it out in the kitchen alone. Which is fair, since usually for dinner it'll be the other way round, and dinner encompass a lot more skills than my limited arsenal.

He actually never means it when he tells me to prepare breakfast, because I once cracked a plate in the microwave and burnt a pan and you get the idea, I wasn't in the kitchen much growing up hehehe.

Headed to hoops with an UNREAL EXCITEMENT.

It is a testament to how slowly stronger I'm getting, that I can now choreograph not just my routine, but also my descents. Prettiest descent in class and I've never been prouder.

I missed out on a move because all the hoops here are way too big for me (if instructor Eunice was here and knew I was coming, she'd prepare a tiny hoop for me) and couldn't one-leg press up without my arms snapping.

But I'm proud of my aerial split. I have come a long bloody way!

It was Mother's Day weekend and initially, I thought my mum was fine with the idea of buffet next week. But still, I sensed she was slightly grouchy about the lack of surprise so I casually went, 'We can have dinner tonight,' and she agreed after only a split second's hesitation.

Now if you know my family (you wouldn't, unless you're my ex, in which case whoa whoa whoa whatchu doing here), you'd know they are notoriously hard to ask out. They (mum dad brother) like to stay home. So when she agreed, I was thrown WAY OFF.

In fact, I booked gym classes at Extreme Fitness already LOL I was ready for her to say no and me to look disappointed and then head out to the gym but now I actually had to cancel class hahah. Time to gear up for Mission: Surprise da Mum or risk not having breakfast laid out tomorrow hahah.

Me and my sister then had an emergency shopping trip across Clementi Mall where we picked up the daintiest bouquet of flowers and a Charles and Keith bag that we stressed madly over. In the end she didn't like it, but that's a bucket of tears for another day.

Met the rest of the early family at Xin Wang and we had a happy meal together!

Mum was playfully mocking my sister's dance style and my brother joined in lol. Dad showed us a gross video of a girl getting her hair torn out by a drill. We shared all our dishes on sharing plates. It was a nice time in a long while.

Oh damn we all look so alike up close!

Also, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED WHOOP WHOOP!

With my future roomie

I started my day with my degree briefing at SIM.

I didn't want to go at first. I wanted to just go to yoga and forget about it, since it was probably nothing important. But baby insisted I go and went to the extent of securing a cab home for me, just so I'd go and be on time.

In the end, I truly did learn nothing much, save realizing that my program is a guaranteed honors one, and that the only difference is the class of honors. I have to secure a safe 75% to get first class honors. BRING IT ON! But it wasn't this that inspired me.

Motivation struck in an unexpected way.
The speaker gave a short introduction of herself. She was a lecturer and a PhD holder. She explained that to earn her doctorate, she had to contribute something to the collective knowledge of the world. She researched and presented something new, something no one has previously explored.

And the seeds of motivation started to sow.

I don't know if I'll ever be good enough for a doctorate, but now I know one thing: I want my masters. I want to achieve a master's level of thinking. I want to have that caliber of mental capacity. I want people to look at me and know I am beyond what I look.

Every single person in my class is going to end up with a bachelor, but only 1% of them will make it to a masters, and even lesser a doctorate. I cannot possibly think I am good enough for a doctorate, but I can reach a masters. I must.

After that was loverman at Ikea.

Why you gotta be so cute.

Why my photos gotta be so slutty?

Do I pursue

My KFit pass ends today.
They actually owe me one more lesson and $5 in credit but this pass has changed my life so incredibly that I really shouldn't be bitching. I truly am grateful while it lasted.

For my final lesson, I convinced my sister to join me in adult gymnastics at GIM Sports International, the first place I tried gymnastics at. Me, my sister and two other folks fell into the beginner's group. We had to start off with a wheel and Coach Benny immediately pointed to me.

'You! You come before, I remember! The strong girl!'

I laughed and went over to demonstrate a wheel. He made me demonstrate the handstand and a back-roll, both of which are ridiculously easy under his guidance.

The girls started working on their cartwheels so we chatted for a bit. He recalled how I shocked him the last time I was here when I ran towards the vertical rope in the gym and mounted to the top in seconds. He said from there on, he knew I had strength, just no balance.

We worked on quite a lot of things. After the wheel, handstand, cartwheel and back-roll, he brought us to the trampoline. I did spectacularly until this back-related move. Pretty much almost died there.

The class ended and I was taking photos with my sister. One of the more experienced girls in class came over to help with my handstand. After that, I made my sister follow me to the rings.

I transitioned smoothly move to move, from an L pull up to a legs-straight-in-the-air to a pike hang. Coach Benny watched me through it all and when I dismounted, he happily said 'ok next time we do rings!'

I then happily pronounced I wanted to sign a package and instead of pushing me a promo pamphlet immediately, he went 'yeah ok. better come next week ah. I have more things to teach you.'

No regard to whether I'm using a fitness pass or their in-house package, only a devoted integrity to the sport. WHERE ELSE CAN I FIND INSTRUCTORS LIKE THIS!?

So now my dilemma is: should I continue with KFit for 8 lessons a month at GIM Sports International for just $99, cheaper than their in-house package, with two additional lessons that I can dedicate to Alpha Gen/ contemporary dance?

THE DILEMMA CONTINUES!

Review: AlphaGen

AlphaGen is incredibly inaccessible without a vehicle.

I took a bus from Clementi in, thinking LOL what is 1km, I ran 20km. And I paid for my ridiculous complacency by sweating the entire walk into the place. I almost got lost, searching for the 74 block, as stated on KFit. It actually is 72.

I was way too early so I waited around restlessly. Asked if I could use their grounds to warm up and they obliged, so I got into my flow. 15 minutes later, my coach came and class started.

It was annoyingly fun.

I say annoying because gymnastics are, above all, about conditioning. We started the class with stretches and sprints, and then a shit ton of repetition.

I did cartwheels for 15 minutes non stop. I had to master the technique, correct my form and perfect my landing. It was a lot to do, and everytime I nailed one down, I forgot the other.

I did handstands for 15 minutes next. And here I am FUCKING PROUD because I had a single unassisted handstand that lasted 3 glorious seconds before the fall. So worth it I could cry. He acknowledged that I had strength but also that I have no balance.

We were chatting and he was telling me how he used to be a former Olympian try out. Now he's older and hence does teaching only. He believes that a gymnast can only be as good as his/ her coach, and that it helps to have a challenging environment.

I was getting comfortable so I overstepped my boundaries a little (hehe) and asked to try everything in the gym. I think he was quite excited to have such a curious student too. He happily obliged and I tried E V E R Y T H I N G!

I learnt how to balance on a beam, I learnt how to mount parallel bars and how to bounce on a single spot on the trampoline. I had a ton of fun, and it glowed through my smile. My coach visibly enjoyed teaching me.

My journey with KFit is coming to an end so I can no longer come here anymore SIGH but man is this place on the top of my gymnastics go-to. This coach will lead me to my first tumble, I know it.

What to do what to do.

Fully recovered

Okay I now have the official math.

For an untrained body, with light activity, I took 5.5 hours to finish a 18km obstacle race.

In this obstacle race, the time taken to wait for our turn at each obstacle course was on average 10 minutes per station, including waiting time and mounting time.

Equalising it, I finished 17 out of 20 stations, skipping on the final 3 because I was running the last 4km alone and did not have the energy to mount them alone.

17 obstacles x 10 minutes = 2 hours 50 minutes
5 hours 30 minutes - 2 hours 50 minutes = 2 hours 40 minutes

Mathematically, I took 2 hours 40 minutes to complete the 18km.

Though personally, if you count all the six times I almost died and float out my body, I'd say the 2 hours and 40 minutes weren't enough. 5 and a half hours sounds about right. But math wise, it checks out that way.

The race was on 30th April.

My body recovered 0% on Day 1 (1st May)
30% on Day 2 (2nd May)
90% on Day 3 (3rd May)

I resumed hot yoga classes today.

My arrogance shines through my face.

Now, not to blow my own horn (when I could be blowing Gabriel's), but I have to say my body is pretty fucking impressive. To recover from an 18km run (without prior training) within 3 days must be a feat.

But to be fair, I also had the greatest advisor.

Gabriel spent much of day zero's night stretching me out after I told him we did not do any warm up or cool downs exercises. He fed me only nutritious food and replenishing drinks. I touched nothing unhealthy. I stretched a lot while I still could.

Day one I was almost 30% paralyzed. I had to go to Gabriel's hotel lunch, managing two upright hours before collapsing onto the hotel's patio table and falling dead asleep. But at least I clocked in an incredible intake of good food and fluids at the buffet before I died.

Day two was me sleeping a lot. I don't remember being awake much. We had a lot of medium-level unhealthy food but still nutritious drinks. Gabriel insisted that my body needed nutrition. He offered his rendition of protein. I politely declined.

Day three and I'm on my feet, no longer dying and ready for all my sports classes!

Although I'm on the verge of sleeping again so goodnight!

My superhero

Thank you for bearing with me.

Thank you for massaging me so much these past few days, trying to help me ease the aches and pains. You made my recovery so speedy, you darling you.

Thank you for feeding me so much these past few days, making sure I get all the right nutrients and fluids. You made me whatever I wanted to eat and didn't make any choices for yourself, choosing to let me have my way.

Thank you for bearing with my unreasonable post-run temper. I was in wet shoes and wet clothes and I was annoyed. You bought me dry shoes and a pretty dress and made me all better.

Thank you for tolerating with my lunch temper. I was hungry and then full and then hit by a sudden bout of sleepiness and even though I was losing my shit at you unreasonably minutes ago, you picked me up and lovingly carried the sleepy me into a cab home to rest.

Thank you for loving me.

I'll never leave you.
